Yellow Bus Fun Day
DMHC at the yellow Bus open day
As you may or may not have been aware, John Benn and I attended an open day that we were invited to to try to raise the profile of our club. The event was organised by the yellow buses and was a fund raising event for Cancer research.
I turned up at around 8:30 and sat around waiting for John to turn up as he had all the gear that needed setting up.
By around 9:00 we bagan erecting the Pagoda and got all the pasting tables arranged with the models in place. My small wooden table was placed at the front with John's 450 Pro and my little trusty E-flight MSR alongside some club flyers and business cards. The rest of the models were a collection of Align 600 and 700s, both electric and nitro, as well as John's Scale jobby situated behind him in the photo. Things were a little slow to start with but by around 10:30 the activity had picked up with quite a bit of interest from the public.

John's good looks soon attracted members of the opposite sex and we were on a roll as you can see in the picture!!!
There seemed to be genuine interest amongst a few of our visitors with around 8 to 10 flyers being taken.
Unfortunately by around 13:30 the weather took a turn for the worse and most people began to leave. By 14:15 we decided to give it up and packed the gear all up and made our way home.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank John for his efforts (and the pagoda which was a godsend) and hope that we might be able to attend a couple more of these types of events in the future.
This was a good experience on the whole and I think that there may be areas where we could improve in any future event.
Obviously having a club banner would be a great help but I also think that having a simulator might have been a good way of keeping the public engaged a bit more. Perhaps even using a larger screen for a better experience. On top of that if we have a pilot with a 'B' license perhaps we could organise a display of sorts? I have put an entry in the forum here for our me
mbers to discuss this further. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures.
